9oth. Chess Birthday Party

In the above photo two of Michigan’s top players battle through a 5 hour game.
We have discovered a great chess player at the Whitcomb in Saint Joseph! Edward Filstrup plays on a chess set his father used to teach him as a young boy. Eddie in latter years represented the Purdue University Chess Team. His team did well, and for Eddie, his main objective was to regularly defeat Indiana University. Eddie and I have played three games, and each has developed into complicated positional play. For Eddie’s birthday on Tuesday September 12th. from 6-10pm the Whitcomb will be the site of an evening of chess. All ages are welcome. Refreshments will be served to celebrate Edward Filstrup’s 90th. Birthday! For more information please e-mail, carlbrecht@netscape.net
